Te Whatu Ora Taranaki Base Hospital BMS Upgrade

Te Whatu Ora Taranaki Base Hospital now has a significantly upgraded Building Management System (BMS).

The BMS is a critical component responsible for managing the hospital’s mechanical services. The client’s goal was to replace outdated and failing equipment with modern systems, providing the engineering team with a streamlined Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for efficient access and control.

The project involved comprehensive on-site upgrades and the migration of existing equipment, all conducted during normal operating hours to ensure continuous service delivery to affected departments. This required careful planning and coordination to minimise disruptions and maintain essential services.

The BMS upgrade was a meticulously planned endeavour, executed over a two-year period in collaboration with both engineering and departmental staff. About 20% of the project involved contracting, designing, and retrofitting new systems into existing switchboards and equipment.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the project team and effective collaboration with hospital staff, the BMS upgrade was completed on time and within the initially estimated budget. The successful modernisation of the hospital’s building management system now provides enhanced reliability and operational efficiency, contributing to improved patient care and facility management.
